Network to choose:
CPTC_Student
TO ACCESS:
Select CPTC_Student and connect
Use your AD login credentials to login. (see below)
Username: First part is case sensitive: STUDENTS\ followed by your individual username
Student username is your first initial + your last name and the last 4 digits of your ctcLink ID (not your social security number). ie; dsmith1234 (First Name: Don Last Name: smith, SID: 102031234)
So the full username line using the example above is: STUDENTS\dsmith1234
Password format: cptcddMmmyyyy (letters are all lowercase, except for the first letter of the 3 character month)
Example: If you were born on June 10, 1999, your password would be: cptc10Jun1999
If you are a returning student and have already reset your password in a previous quarter AND you don't remember it, then you will need to go to https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com to recover your password.
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
NOTE: Due to how Google devices (Pixel, chromebooks etc) function, their security setup won’t allow you to complete step #2 (Don’t validate/certify), therefore the only network these devices can attach to is the Visitor network.
Sometimes, especially if this is your first time connecting to our wireless with a new device, you will be asked some additional network information:
1. If prompted, select PEAP and/or MSCHAPV2
2. If asked about a CA Certificate select: Don’t certify/verify
3. You shouldn’t have to enter an “alias”, but if asked just enter in the same username as your login.
Wrong username/password message
- Double check to make sure capslock is off and/or Nums lock is on if you are using a keypad to enter numbers.
- Your password has expired- If this is the case, you will need to reset your password using the passwordreset link above.
-You recently changed your password, but it’s not working- you will need to make sure that you can log in to your email and/or cptc.okta.edu using the new password. If this works, then try accessing wireless again. If it does NOT work, then go to the library lab for assistance. (253-589-5820)
If you still have trouble connecting, try removing the existing wireless network by doing the following:
(below are directions for a Windows 7 PC, if you have another operating system, just google: “how to remove existing wireless network from _____ (mac, ipad, WIN10 etc)
WINDOWS 7 (Forget wireless network) or you can click on link to view 36 sec video.
Click Start->Control Panel, Select Network and Internet, and then click Network and Sharing Center
In the task list off to the left hand column, select Manage wireless networks
In the Network list, select the wireless network you want to remove and click REMOVE
You may receive a warning dialogue box, just click OK.
You can either go back into Network and file sharing and “refresh” to see a listing of wireless networks, OR reboot your device so it will find the available networks and you can try connecting again.
Steps to connect to CPTC_Students Wi-Fi (first time, or new device setup)
You would connect to the Wi-Fi group: “CPTC_Students”
EAP method: “PEAP”
Phase 2 authentication: “MSCHAPv2”
CA Certificate: “select:: Don’t Certify”
Identity: your user name: STUDENTS\FirstInitalLastName+last 4 of emplID
Password: The one you use to login to the computer and to get your email
- You may need to forget the CPTC__Student wifi when you change your password then reconnect using your new password.
- For Windows 10 devices we have found that it is easier if your open word and type in your password correctly then copy the password to paste it in when required as some devices have a short time span when you try to enter your password
